Virtual Vox Pop is a weekly open mic in which we ask you, the reader, to sound off on a particular topic. This week, it’s neo-retro games (potentially) gone wrong. Never let it be said that Capcom doesn’t know how to capitalize on a hot property. Much like the multiple incarnations of Street Fighter II, [...]

What better way to celebrate the yuletide cheer than by severing undead heads? Press Start Studio, an independent game developer out of France, is bringing its Twin Blades : The Reaping Vanguard to the Xbox Live Arcade Indie Games platform on Christmas Day for just 240 MSP. Twin Blades: The Reaping Vanguard is a frantic [...]

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any news about CJ Internet’s MMO action-fighter, Mini Fighter, but things have changed since we’ve interviewed the company back in August. The closed beta has ended, and the game is now open to the public, with a few new tweaks to make the game tighter. Based on feedback [...]

Priced at $20, Valcon Games’ Raiden Fighters Aces was one of the best bang for the buck packages to come along in a long, long time; in fact it may have been the best deal ever for vertical shooter die hards. The title collected the first three Raiden games into a stellar compilation that featured [...]

After Muramasa left me lukewarm I was eager to see A Boy and His Blob try its hand at 2D goodness on the Wii. I never played the original game beyond renting it one weekend long ago, and like many NES games of the day I got stuck, ragequit and never looked back. It was [...]

If you find that tinsel, partridges, and glittering stars aren’t exactly your idea of rollicking good Festivus pole decorations, Wonderland offers gaming related trinkets that will bring warmth in your geek soul. Mario mushrooms, Zelda rupees, and even Xbox 360s are available for purchase. We’re particularly digging the pixelated Yoshi thingies, but don’t know if [...]

Inspired by classic side-scrolling action such as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Metroid, Chair Entertainment and Epic Games’ Shadow Complex combines everything that we loved about those titles and added a modern twist.  Yes, there are maps, leveling up, and passageways to unlock, but a quality script by Peter David, sci-fi/military design, and pseudo [...]

Galactic Colonization is a very simple and extremely frustrating game that is seriously addicting. I’ve always had dreams of taking over the world through use of bacon, but this game doesn’t allow for that. The game is about spreading your civilization quickly, upgrading and hoarding resources, etc. Move fast, or you’ll end up at the bottom of the food chain.

Jeff blogged about the Blip Festival not long ago and I attended it recently for the very first time. For anyone that loves gaming and music, but never really found a way to merge the two perfectly, this will probably be your scene. Coming from the world of professional gaming and being a bassist/guitarist/vocalist for a number of different bands, the world of chiptunes and the Blip Festival is something that I encourage all geeks to experience.

When companies tout their game’s ability to display each individual blade of grass making  up the playing field, you know that the sports genre has lost touch with a small matter called fun. Downtown Smash Dodgeball did not. The product of Miracle Kidz (made of the creative team behind Technos’ Kunio family of games), Downtown [...]
