houndoom Epic 4chan Pokemon artwork: Part one

Pokémon X and Y are soon upon us — the Game Freak-developed game hits retails outlets on October 12th — bringing “gotta catch’em all” fun to the Nintendo 3DS. It’s the latest entry in the virtually unstoppable multimedia property that has graced cartoons, movies, trading cards, comics, and a myriad other entertainment types. The franchise has found success in everything that it’s touched since its mid-’90s debut — video games in particular.

Nintendo’s Pokémon video game franchise is a driving force that’s snared multiple generations in its Pocket Monster-catching grasp from the original GameBoy to N64 to Wii. Only Call of Duty, Madden NFL, and  Nintendo’s own Mario franchise has that level of mainstream swagger.

Fan art is the natural extension of that. When a person loves a property, and the person has some artistic skill, drawing, paintings, GIFs, and other pieces of expression are born. While browsing 4chan‘s /b/ board  (LINK NSFW), former 2D-X editor Chris Gampat came across an incredible thread featuring awesome Pokémon artwork. Not just here, but here, too. If there were an actual Pokémon game using this artwork, we’d probably buy it in a heartbeat.

Props to the artists, whoever you are. Unfortunately, no one gave us the “sauce.”

Found some deviantart pages with Tineye.
(The Darkrai picture appears to have been uploaded by an “r5r5″ person, but they’ve been banned so it may or may not have been stolen.)
From the styles and signatures, I can also tell you the guy who did the Articuno also did the Flareon, Moltres, and Zapdos, and the guy that did the Blastoise also did the Venusaur.

That’s all I have the attention span for right now, good luck if you decide to try to find the rest.

I don’t like any of the art. Pokemon are suppose to be sweet lovable creatures you catch inside a pokeball The look evil and too evil. Pokemon Black and White suck and the new ones just look terrible. When I saw the ice cream Pokemon and it’s 2 evolutions I knew how bad they were. Just totally suck. I did the right thing. I didn’t buy B/W I replayed the R/S Hoenn games again.

Dude.. Gen 5 was a game-changer. All battle scenes are dynamic. It also had tons of content and shiz. I loved how you think you got the leagues levels drastically increase post game and the modes in BW2. The only thing I hated was the pokemon designs and the removal of the walker thing. :I NOW D/P/P? That was totes ridic! I mean Not only were the designs awful but in game you actually capture the fundamental forces in the universe. They should’ve thought that they went too far when they thought of Arceus.. :D

Can you imagine if this kind of art was built into a pokemon game 0_0

    • tastymuffin March 2, 2013 at 2:20 PM - Reply

Could you imagine if there was a Pokemon spinoff with an epic story line like Halo, featuring extremely detailed Pokemon and actual violent dueling and whatnot? Shiett….

Of course, everyone knows that the best way to post artwork is by shrinking it down to 200×200 pixels, with no links to the full-sized images or even proper credit to the artists for that matter. But hey, if you can’t find the credit within ten seconds then you’re just free to post it anyway, right? I mean, you tried. If only such a thing as a reverse image search existed :(
