Review: Legends of Exidia (DS)
One would think that because Legends of Exidia resembles old school console rpgs with its side missions and lots of button mashing, it would be totally epic. Unfortunately, it’s just not epic, just okay. But it does a great job of taking you back to the 2D gaming days where you had hard puzzles to solve and missions to fulfill.
Nintendo DSi XL vs. Amazon Kindle: Which device is the better e-book reader?
The $189 Nintendo DSi XL is set to hit American shores on March 28th, after being the plaything of Japanese gamers since November (where its known as the Nintendo DSi LL). With the Nintendo DSi being able to double as an eBook reader one can think that the larger feel and screen of the Nintendo DSi XL would make it an even better system for reading on the go and, perhaps, be more versatile than the Amazon Kindle. Let’s do some comparisons.
TimeWasters: Sushi Cat
TimeWasters highlights many of the excellent Web-based/lightweight downloadable titles that you can dive into within the space of a lunch break. This week, Chris Gampat explores Sushi Cat.
For those of us with an epic case of, “teh noms” you may want to check out Sushi Cat. It’s the first TimeWaster I’ve done in a while that has actually made me smile as the game is very cute and satisfies at the same time.
First Impressions: The Legend of Vraz
We’ve been following The Legend of Vraz since it was first announced, and now that it is finally released, quality PC time has been spent with the game. I’ve gotten through most of the first section of the game so far and have played enough to give you my first impressions and thoughts on the game vs. what I was expecting.
Review: Sands of Destruction (DS)
After spending quite some time with SEGA’s Sands of Destruction for the Nintendo DS, I can give you a verdict: Good, but should be loads better. I found myself saying, “What the hell?!” often actually. That’s exactly what I’ve felt in many spots within the game. While the gameplay value in between the millions of cut-scenes is really solid, there are still too many cinematics and the ending may leave you scratching your head.
Sonic 4 photo leak reveals classic Dr. Robotnik
Some new screen shots of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 were leaked showing Dr. Robotnik doing what he does best: riding about in flying contraptions and menacing fuzzy creatures.
Remember how annoying he could be when facing off against him in the old school Sonic games? Well, we’re proud to tell you that your old nemesis looks like he hasn’t aged a day. He’s also still building those weird machines to get his dirty work done.
It’ll be interesting to see just how complicated and smart he’s become since the Genesis days. You used to just have to jump off of springs and come down hard on him a couple of times to take him out. Has the old doctor never heard of extra armor?
Rayman coming to iPhone and iPod touch courtesy of Gameloft
After making his debut in 1995 as an early PlayStation classic, Ubisoft’s beloved Rayman will be coming to the iPhone and iPod touch soon. While I haven’t been a fan of it, I’ve always been a fan of the crazy ravin’ rabbids in the game. We can only hope that the game will possess visuals as lush as the 2D graphics seen in the original (spotlighted in the clip above).
As Rayman, you must recapture the great Protoon after it has been stolen. You’ll also need to free the Electoons and restore the world’s harmony. It closely resembles and sounds like Sonic . Plus, it looks fun! What other need must you fulfill while impatiently passing time?
TimeWasters: Infector: World Domination
TimeWasters highlights many of the excellent Web-based/lightweight downloadable titles that you can dive into within the space of a lunch break. This week, Chris Gampat explores Infector: World Domination.
I have seen the end of the world, and it has zombies. In fact, Infector: World Domination is literally all about zombies taking over town after town, and country after country. It’s not a simple game, but a couple of clicks with a mouse allows you to really lay siege to the entire world. Plan it all out carefully as you’ll really need it later on.
Sonic 4 video footage leaked!
16-bit game lovers, I present to you leaked footage of Sonic 4. We’ve been covering this game as much as we can so far including our own critique and expectations. I’m proud to say that the game seems to basically be just like the classic SEGA games but with updated graphics and lighting. Things seem much brighter now. Additionally, things seem much less dangerous for Sonic this time around, but to be fair, this is only a small snippet of footage.
It sounds and looks like the game, but it has yet to be seen whether or not it feels like the game. Your thoughts?

Pac-Man tattoo makes for interesting visuals
The last thing that I want to wake up to is a photo of a rear end in my email with a Pac-Man level tattooed on it. Why? It is visually mind boggling. I mean, what if he pops the cherry? Or maybe he’s got to jump the Grand Canyon to get to the other side? The concept is sure cool and a decent amount of symmetrical work went into this, but this otherwise makes me a Sad 2D Panda. But who knows: video game-related ass tats may replace “Juicy” jeans/pants during Fashion Week.
