The NES lives! Sort of.

A group of retro-minded dudes at Sivak Games plan to release Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril on a real Nintendo Entertainment System cartridge. Yep, a homebrewed NES game on a real cart, which will be available at website RetroZone. Starring a green-suited floaty kid name Timmy, Battle Kid resembles the Mega Man series, complete with disappearing blocks, rooms full of insta-death spikes, and giant snake bosses.

Unfortunately, judging by the prices of games already available at RetroZone it looks like the cost will be as high as a legitimate cartridge back when the NES was new. In this day and age of cheap Virtual Console releases that might be taking things a bit too far, but hopefully we’ll see a fair and balanced price when the game becomes available very, very soon.

Wow the game looks wicked cool; very mega man-ish. But if they’re chargin 55 bucks for a cart, I’ll wait for the ROM lol Not that I advocate emulation, but if Capcom is chargin 9 bucks for Mega Man 9, why bother payin for a cart that’s about 5 times as much?

Collectors will eat it up. You know, the type with 500 NES carts on their levels?

that looks like a lot of fun, but the visual style looks very inconsistent. There seems to be several clashing styles. I wonder if they had a few different people working on graphics without a good overall direction.
