Harmonix and MTV Announced Rock Band Network
Rock Band has proved to be a great way for artists to make a few extra chips and/or increase album sales, but until now its been the domain of high-profile musicians. Enter Rock Band Network, which will let any competent band upload tracks to submit tracks. These tunes can be converted into in-game music by either a) a team of freelance community developers or b) by a team that band hires itself. As Joystiq points out, “This means that, for the first time, the acts will be able to control the note charts on their songs.” Awesome. Personally, I can’t wait for The Dirtbombs to represent. Jamming out to Ultraglide in Black using fake instruments has been a dream of mine since, well, last year.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Comes To PSN on August 13
Capcom’s classic fighter hits XBLA on 7/29, but PlayStation 3 gamers get to pit Ryu, Ken, Cable, and Storm, against each other (and the 50+ other characters that make up the HD update) a few days later for $15.
Shadow Complex Gets Previewed
Kotaku got significant cuddle time with Shadow Complex, the much-anticipated game XBLA side-scroller that draws inspiration from the likes of Castlevania and Super Metroid. Stephen Totilo writes that “Shadow Complex could never hope to be as good as the best Metroid and Castlevania games, and I don’t think its developers expected it to be. What I’ve played so far — past an opening a little too in love with the past — shows signs of how this genre can move forward.” Click the linkage for Mr. Totilo’s lengthy hands-on impressions.
