Gameloft gives gamers exactly that with 9MM, a hardcore, third-person shooter inspired by Max Payne. In it, you guide Mr. Kannon through a series of urban stages dispensing justice one bullet at a time. 9MM, overall, is a solid action romp that delivers an entertaining (albeit very clichéd) gaming experience.
I lament modern AAA games’ over-reliance on guns as a vital gameplay mechanic, but all that pseudo-intellectual critical analysis went out the window when I had the opportunity to test drive Lightbox Interactive’s Starhawk. A third-person shooter slated for release in 2012, Starhawk is the spiritual successor to WarHawk, but with a focus on single player combat. But oh, Starhawk is no ordinary shooter.
