Beyonce partners with Nintendo to deliver Dereon clothing content to Style Savvy
OK, fellas, we realize that Style Savvy isn’t the most “hardcore” title around, but sometimes you have to put down the beer, rifles, and other overstated items of manhood and think of the ladies.
Be as smooth as Kerry with the new 2D-X t-shirts
Remember, the 2D-X t-shirt contest that we ran a while back? The very first person to score a shirt was Kerry of Clodhop, the mastermind behind the classic Project D series. In his latest video, in which he gives us a tour of his iceshack, he’s wearing a fine piece of black-and-white apparel. And you, sirs and ma’ams, can have one.
2D-X live chat tonight at 11:30PM EST

When we introduced the new 2D-X toolbar last week, we were hoping to get a lively chat section going within a few days’ time, but between Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day, things fell apart. Not this week!
Join us tonight, February 20th, at 11:30PM EST to talk gaming. Bring a mic for live chatting with the team, or just your fingers for sending text questions/responses.
GAME ON.
2D-X Reloaded: Live chat, social networking, and other features finally arrive

If you’ve logged into the site in the last few hours, you may have noticed the new toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Don’t worry, it’s not spyware latched onto your system, but the first of many new community features that you’ll see here at 2D-X.
The toolbar contains a Twitter box, links to our Facbook fan pages, a page translator, sharing links, a search box, and best of all, a live chat feature that we’ll be using this weekend for some hardcore gaming talk (deets to come).
Questions, comments, let us know. Meanwhile, GAME ON.
So do you wanna win some cool 2D-X swag?

Of course you do. T’would be a lie to say otherwise.
10 lucky 2D-X readers will receive one of two rather cool tee shirts that aren’t quite ready for public consumption. Consider them beta tees, if you will. Here’s how to score ‘em.
2D-X gets all up in CES 2010
It’s that time of year when the collective electronics world turns its attention to Sin City for the International Consumer Electronics Show. Gadgets and new technologies are the natural highlights of the event, but video game-related news will also emerge from the show. Capcom, for example, is bringing its Fight Club competition to Las Vegas, with Super Street Fighter IV as the centerpiece (as well as a host of other goodies).
Of course, there will be numerous other happenings coming out of the show. We’re touching down Wednesday afternoon, so stay tuned for hands-on coverage of the fresh games and gear!
Patent filing reveals Google’s gaming plans
Would you game with Google? The search giant, according to data sussed out by bnet, filed for a patent back in February that would allow “interactive video annotations enabling control of video playback locations and creation of interactive games.” Hmm.
On the surface, this sounds as though flash games may be embedded directly into YouTube clips of skateboarders taking nut shots, but probing a bit deeper reveals an eyebrow-raising section:
Some annotations, e.g. a graphical annotation (such as a text box annotation) comprising a link to a particular portion of a target video, are associated with a time of the target video, which can be either the video with which the annotation is associated, or a separate video. Selecting such annotations causes playback of the target video to begin at the associated time. Such annotations can be used to construct interactive games using videos, such as a game in which clicking on different portions of a video leads to different outcomes.
What do you think? A choose-your-own-adventure game, or something with animated sequences like Dragon’s Lair or Space Ace? It would certainly bring a new element to the popular video repository, and may be, just may birth a new wave of video game creation; imagine being able to create a popular diversion using just wit and a web cam.

Bits and Bytes: 9/20/09

Bits and Bytes is a weekly round up of some of the more interesting gaming news items that happened to slip through the cracks during our normal posting schedule. They’re presented here in easily-digestible bite-size chunks. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for more 2D gaming commentary.
Funky Bomber
Bomberman is an old school franchise that has graced nearly every console existence, but it isn’t quite this old school. Hudson has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming Bomberman Live: Battlefest (PSN/WiiWare/XBLA) that juxtaposes a gameplay mechanic born in the ’80s with funkified jams from the era of ‘fros and platforms. I suspect that the ’70s tunes won’t be the official sonic backing of the game, but I would totally dig it if Hudson went that route, sucka.
Cloud Gaming
The Spawn HD Pro isn’t the only piece of new gaming hardware that has potential to revolutionize the industry. MechaWorks’s vision of gaming consoles is “Full Circle“ an open-source platform that eschews both streaming and subscription-based services. Full Circle combines software for Mac and PC, with “the most powerful hardware console built to-date.” The software will enable games to be played across Mac and PC (and intelligently removes Mac OS X and Windows from memory, allowing titles to run with maximum performance), as well as on the Full Circle Hardware Console. It also supports up to three HDTVs at once. Check out the site for more information.
Non-Madden Football
Electronic Arts may have the NFL license under lock and key, but that hasn’t stopped Quick Hit Football from serving up gridiron fun. This free, web-based MMO-like strategy game looks to wrangle up the fantasy league crowd with its emphasis on strategy over pure action. Unlike games such as Tecmo Bowl Kickoff, it has a handful a true-to-life NFL personalities (such as Ray Lewis) that were individually licensed.

2D vs. 3D
2D games and 3D games both represent different styles of gameplay that, on the surface, appear to benefit particular genres. For example, would the Metal Gear Solid series be as amazing if it were in 2D? Would the Street Fighter series make a successful transition to a Tekken-like presentation? It’s a question that one could endlessly debate, but is 3D inherently superior to 2D? MMOMG’s latest roundtable conversation tackles the question.
Honoring A Classic
Do you remember The Legend of Mana? If you’re a PlayStation RPG buff, you may remember it as one of the finest role-playing games on Sony’s debut machine. Spawn Kill shares it love of this classic Square title.
The Madness of War
Hudson is probably best known for the Adventure Island and Bomberman franchises, but it’s the company’s excellent strategy game, Military Madness, that ’s my favorite in its catalog. That’s why I’m all excited about Military Madness: Neo Nectaris, an upcoming iPhone title based on the original PC Engine CD-ROM that features improved improved graphics and touch controls. There’s no specific release date for this remake, but its set to arrive this fall.

Poppin’ Online
Just after a week after announcing that Plants vs. Zombies will be headed to XBLA, Popcap Games has revealed that Peggle Nights is also a-comin’. It’s not just a straight port; Popcap has added 60 new challenges, online multi-player modes, and many other goodies.
