It’s been a hot minute since we’ve gotten any information regarding Contra Rebirth, the WiiWare run-and-gunner that heavily samples the classic SNES title, Contra III: Alien Wars. In my analysis of the video, I loved the rugged sprites, the throwback music, and the weapon-handling. The only downside? It was slated for European and Japanese releases. But according to ESRB information that /gamer dug up, that looks like it’s going to change.

Contra Rebirth

Platform: Wii

Rating: Everyone 10+

Content descriptors: Fantasy Violence

Rating summary: This is an arcade-style action game in which players control an elite soldier that battles an invading alien force. Players run through 2D, side-scrolling screens and shoot hordes of aliens and robot enemies. Guns, lasers, and rockets can be used to defeat enemies that cry out in pain and explode in brief fiery bursts.”

Apparently, a release date has yet to be set, but I wouldn’t consider it risky to say that it’ll be available for download by the holiday season. Nothing says peace on earth than wholesale alien slaughter.
