UPDATE: It looks like the answer, sadly, is no. Revenge of the Wounded Dragon appears to be a new title that’s set to debut on PSN “soon.” A feature list, courtesy of the PlayStation Blog:

  • Single player and local multi-player modes
  • 4 beautiful environments with immersive levels, totalling 24 areas all of them packed with enemies
  • 10 mini-games: Play them in single player or against your friends
  • Finishing moves to defeat your enemies
  • Dragon rage, your special power
  • Co-op moves to use with your friends in multi-player mode
  • Cool animated comic storytelling between levels
  • 12 PS3 Trophies
  • Leaderboards
  • The ability to create your own soundtrack and relive your game by taking screens through the XMB!

My original jump-the-gun post after the break.

It’s been a long time since we’ve witnessed Spike and Hammer/Billy and Jimmy Lee bust some thug skull, but Play.tm unearthed some rather intriguing information from the ESRB about A2M’s upcoming “2D fighter” for the PlayStation 3 entitled Revenge of the Wounded Dragon.

The story involves two brothers who are attempting to avenge their grandfather’s death, while simultaneously taking on a mob boss that’s kidnapped their sister. The gameplay mechanics, as described by the ESRB:

“Players frequently punch, kick, and throw enemies as they ‘side-scroll’ (i.e., walk) forward through the platform city environments; they can also use bottles, bats, knives, Molotov cocktails, pistols, shotguns, and uzi submachine guns to kill the henchmen.”

Brothers? Street vermin? Mob boss? Sound very much like Double Dragon to me, or at least a spiritual sequel a la Evoga and Noise Factory’s fun Neo Geo fighter, Rage of The Dragons. At last check, Million still holds the Double Dragon license, but who knows what behinds the scenes shenanigans may have gone down. A release date hasn’t been mentioned, but this certainly looks to be a title onto which beat ‘em up fans should keep their peepers focused.
