Psycho Clown E3 2010: Luca Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring

Wrestling video games, for most Americans, are defined by the WWE and TNA licenses. The Rock, Sting, Jeff Jarrett, Hulk Hogan, Jon Cena, and a host of other overly-developed household names power video game pseudo-fighting. It’s sad, really, as many quality games get overlooked, such as the marvelous Fire Pro wrestling series which relies on a cast of international characters. Hopefully, the Immersion Software & Graphics-developed Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring doesn’t suffer the same fate.

Published by Slang, and distributed by Konami, Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring features a slew of lightweights and heavyweights that got exposure in the old WCW promotion (La Parka, X-Pac, Konnan, Vampiro, Silver King, Juventud Guerrero, Psicosis), as well as Dr. Wagner, Jr., Super Fly, El Zorro, and many, many more.

Much like the pseudo-sport that it’s based on, Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring is all about winning the crowd’s favor. Each grappler has a meter that lets them pull off special moves, and you fill it by taunting your opponent. This grants popularity stars that lets you more or less “purchase” crazy maneuvers.

The action is smooth, but the punches and kicks felt as though they were taking place underwater. The game is powered by Unreal Engine 3, and feature full English and Spanish commentary.

Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring is scheduled to launch on August 9 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS and PSP.
