Never underestimate the power of video game culture. Or, I suppose, the deep pockets of a AAA game developer. As Thomas Rivas and I were cruising L.A.’s downtown area in an attempt to get the lay of the land before E3 2010 kicked off, we encountered this rather awesome Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ad as we prepared to cross a street. Thomas noted that this was the first time Captain America was confirmed to be an in-game character. He also pondered the identity of the character in the upper-left portion of the screen. Here’s the image zoomed in a bit.
The pointy ears and curved shoulder pads hint that either a Skrull or Thanos will grace MVC3. I’m hoping its the former, as a Skrull (particularly one of the Super Skrull variety) would make a visually interesting combatant. Hopefully more characters will be revealed when we hit the E3 2010 floor, but until then, we leave with a question: who do you think is the mystery character?
