Aside from showing us a-plenty of SEGA goodness, TriplePoint PR had some nifty gaming peripherals on display at their event last week.
First up were Gunnar glasses – eyewear specifically designed to prevent eyestrain from computer and television monitors. The patent-pending technology alters the way light hits your eyes, reducing glare and generally making your life better. All kinds of customizable, from lenses and tints to your own prescription. You can even get 3D ones (one model is geared to Disney’s real3D technology while the other just looks cool). They’re only for indoor use at the moment, despite what the website says.
Next were a series of controllers from Nyko, all of which felt better, looked cooler, and cost less than their official counterparts. They had three on display: a Wii Wand and two Raven PS3 controllers with standard and alternative joystick configurations. The Wand had built-in full-motion technology, enabling players to take advantage of WiiMotion without plugging in (or purchasing) anything extra. It also had a rubberized back grip, larger 1 and 2 buttons, and wireless connection – all helpful features.
The Raven controllers also have built-in rumble and wireless connectivity, along with angled trigger buttons, a soft touch surface that felt like rubberized velvet, and an ergonomic design that did NOT cramp my tiny hands. A set of four Raven controllers costs the same as two PS3 controllers; I have no reason to buy an official controller again.
Last was the Peregrine gaming glove. It’s black, well-ventilated, and uses touch-point controls to make PC games easier to play. Instead of pushing buttons on a keyboard you press your thumb to your finger. There are over 30 programmable actions, and you can create any configuration you want. It’s available in small, medium and large sizes. Since I have tiny little hands the small size fit me just fine, but I’m concerned the glove won’t fit regular sized hands. There’s also a right-handed one in development, and while I see potential for dual-handed gaming action that’s far in the future. I’m waiting to hear back from PR about that.
Frankly, they were quality goods. The controllers were top notch, the glasses are on my Christmas list, and I’d love to surprise my boyfriend with a Peregrine… assuming PR tells me they’ll fit his normal-sized hand. If you’re looking to cop some gaming gear, his is a fine place to start.
