Kick-Ass, the movie based on the popular Mike Millar comic, hits theaters April 16th, so it was inevitable that footage of the tie-in video game made its rounds to the public. WHA Entertainment announced the upcoming release of Kick-Ass for the PS3 and iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, which will be released a day before the film is released.

Set in an overhead third-person perspective, gamers will be able to play as the three primary movie characters: Kick-Ass, Hit Girl, and Big Daddy. The story borrows heavily from the themes of the comic by highlighting hardcore, gory brawling in the dark, crime-ridden New York City streets. Think the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles minus, you know, Turtles.

Besides a single-player mode, Kick-Ass features local co-op gameplay, and in a unique move, Facebook and Twitter integration. Many of the Kick-Ass missions are given via friend requests from the Facespace social networking site, which will we innovative or quite gimmicky–I’m leaning toward the latter.
