Even further proof that handhelds are the new refuge for traditional Japanese RPGs, Aksys Games announces Mimana Iyar Chronicles for the PSP, coming very, very soon to UMD and as a digital download on the PlayStation Store.
Written by the same folks behind the Lunar series and Tales of Destiny 2, the story centers around Crais Sewell, a grumpy warrior on a quest to find seven gems at the behest of a young girl named Sophie. Something tells me there will be more to the story then a grand fetch quest….
Battles look like they’re in real-time, Tales of Destiny-style, i.e. a sidescrolling beat-em-up with combos, skills, magic and customizable AI-controlled partners. Hopefully there will be more strategy to battles than button mashing.
Frank “Bo” deWindt II, associate producer at Aksys Games says, “Mimana Iyar Chronicles is a great mix of fast-paced, Tales of-esque battles combined with the ability to choose the girl that’s just right for you. With so many ladies to choose from to accompany you on your epic quest to save the world, the sky’s the limit!”
Oh! A 2D JRPG with a dating sim aspect? I smell a sleeper hit. And the bonus soundtrack CD certainly doesn’t hurt.
