Lauren Faust, creator of “Powerpuff Girls” and “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends” has managed to reach success with her new show “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.” So much success in fact, that an intrepid group of passionate fans are now developing the “My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic” fighting game.
That’s right, a fighting game.
The game itself has drawn comparisons to Street Fighter, and is complete with its own original music, combos, lifebars, and many other staples of the fighting genre. The team, called “Mane6”, appears to originate from a 4chan-esque imageboard called Ponychan. They’ve released several screenshots, and a pre-alpha trailer is available for your Pony-watching pleasure on YouTube. Oh, the trailer has hit nearly 200,000 views on YouTube after being posted on June 19.
According to YouTube Trailer description, “This video shows scenes from a game currently in development. The moves and their effects are placeholders, used to test the effects of bouncing and launching, as well as their decay from repeated use…” In addition to Mane6′s Ponychan threads, a FAQ was released, but as of 4:46p.m. yesterday is inaccessible.
The My Little Pony craze has been reported throughout the internet, though much of it has come from popular internet imageboard 4chan, and according to Knowyourmeme.com, older males who are fans of the show call themselves “Bronies.”
The creator of the show acknowledges her fan base. She commented on her deviant art page to the denizens of 4chan’s comic’s and cartoons board /co/. She says, “Hi /co/ People!! (Am I allowed to call you /co/mrades?”
