While at PAX Prime, I checked out Epic Mickey, an epic game in its own right. Epic Mickey is a game that has Mickey Mouse fighting his way through a dark and twisted place known as the Wasteland. Since going alone would be too dangerous, Mickey carries a brush, some paint and some paint thinner which he can use to defend himself. Mickey can use thinner on his enemies to get rid of them easily enough, or he can use the paint to pacify his assailants. Mickey can even use the paint and thinner on his surroundings, creating or destroying parts of his environments, respectively.

Be warned that both the paint and thinner will eventually run out after continued use. When this happens, you can wait for your paint and/or thinner to recharge on its own or you can also acquire containers that will reload your ammo, eliminating the need to wait for a recharge.

How you use the paint and thinner also changes how NPC’s react to Mickey and which side-quests and allies will be made available. You can even avoid certain boss battles depending on how you play.

Epic Mickey also features a good amount of 2D side scrolling platform action too. Players can travel to new 3D worlds by clearing challenging 2D platform levels based on classic Mickey cartoons. You won’t be able to fight back against enemies in these levels though, so you’ll just have to rely on timing and skill to get by your enemies.

So if you’re into 2D platformers, 3D free roaming, karma systems or you want to sate your curiosity and see just dark Mickey Mouse can get (and face it, YOU DO) then pick up Epic Mickey when it comes out this November.
