While I was at PAX, I got a chance to play a little Mortal Kombat one-on-one with a man named Hector who works at NetherRealm. while we were surrounded by some of the most enthusiastic Mortal Kombat fans ever.

This incarnation of Mortal Kombat features a super meter that you can charge to allow access to X-Ray moves, Mortal Kombat’s answer to the Hyper Combo. I watched as the new X-Ray moves were demonstrated, or more accurately, demonstrated on me, then I got try it out myself. The X-Ray moves are so easy, anyone can do them, all you do is press the Right Trigger and Right Bumper to activate them — just fire and forget! Some of the best X-Ray moves so far involve simple but brutal maneuvers like having Reptile thrust his index fingers into someones eyes (complete with X-Ray Vision to show you the damage on the inside too) and Scorpion hitting a dude in the back of the neck so hard that he throws up some teeth. Algebraic!

The Fatalities are also worth mentioning as they are ridiculously gory. I’ve seen some Fatalities that involve guided missiles blowing up parts of torsos, amputation, decapitation and even castration. I even got to see Kung Lao use his hat as a buzzsaw, then drag a helpless combatant into the hatsaw — groin first — before holding up each end of his opponent like 2 trophies.

The game also features online support and a tag team mode, so if you want to beat up one friend at a time or two, Mortal Kombat’s got you covered. In fact, you can beat up all of your friends during the second quarter of 2011 when Mortal Kombat comes out for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

About - When he isn't playing Mr. Mom as a teacher's aide at his local schools, John De Large reviews games and travels across the continent to cover events like E3 and PAX Prime for both 2D-X and his own venture, New Game +. If by some miracle he isn't writing, working, traveling, or he isn't signed into his Steam account, JDL is usually napping, cooking, or watching Super Sentai.
