Each year the video game industry has its fair share of releases that get bumped back due to development issues, or trying to avoid hitting stores at the same time as a major blockbuster. Very rarely does a game get bumped forward, which is exactly what Nintendo is doing with Level-5′s Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.

Previously scheduled for release on Sept. 20, the Nintendo DS game will now be available a week earlier, treating newcomers and experienced players to a mix of mystery, time travel and puzzle-solving fun.

The plot: Professor Layton and the Unwound Future places the professor and his trusted apprentice in the middle of a crazy adventure after they receive a strange letter sent from 10 years in the future. 165 puzzles are available that require cerebral gamers to decipher clues and strive to unlock a time-twisting mystery that threatens to plunge London into chaos.
