Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has stood the test of time by being a tournament-worthy title to many fighting game fans, despite it’s utterly broken nature and uninspired Storm-Magneto-Sentinel teams that “teh proz” so adamantly select.
For me, it’s always been one of the “WTF” games, not necessarily for the gameplay (granted, that does play a factor), but for the loopy videogame-meets-jazz soundtrack that was totally out of place. I’m not sure which variety of sake caused a programmer to think “Hey, let’s throw some horn in here!” upon seeing Ryu and Spidey mix it up, but Capcom is looking to right this inexplicable wrong.
This summer’s re-release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will still feature the same horrendous soundtrack, but the silky pimps at Kotaku have gotten word from Capcom that a free bonus “mix tape” soundtrack will be available for download from Marvel.com, Capcom-Unity.com, and the game’s promotional site, tu4ar.com.
The hip hop remix soundtrack will feature several underground rap legends who’ll perform original songs inspired by fighting games. They include:
- Raekwon
- Talib Kweli
- E40
- DJ Qbert
- Hieroglyphics
- The Grouch and Eligh of Living Legends
- Planet Asia
- MC Supernatural
- Havoc of Mobb Deep
- DJ Toure
- And more!
Props to the Big C for doing it the right way, and not signing the Soulja Boys of the world. Here’s hoping that Del tha Funkee Homosapien makes an appearance; his “Protoculture” stands as one of the finest love letters to videogamedom ever penned.
