It’s Dreamcast week around these parts, but that doesn’t mean that non-DC news will get the shaft. Case in point: Tecmo NBA Unrivaled. We covered the initial game announcement that came out of this year’s E3, and it remains one of the titles that you guys are most curious about – - we’ve been receiving e-mails about the game since June. So, when Tecmo finally revealed those long sought-after screenshots, we had to follow up. And with analysis.

The squatting player in black seems to be landing from a hard jam, as evidenced by the ball on the floor in front of him, his teammates running down court, and the flashy green special FX bubbling from the basket.

When the game was first announced,  one of the features that caught my eye was the Momentum Bar, which gauges how well the fans like your performance, and gives you a congratulatory stat boost. Here, Kobe just scored with “Momentum Mania” in effect, perhaps signifying that Lakers fans are pumped. There’s also an accompanying special effect that appears to be radiating from the hoop.

Kenyan Martin looks as through he just put up a trey. Note: the ball has the same green effect as seen in the dunk screenshot. Does this mean that all shots have a green hue, or that green indicates a player that’s warming up/on fire?

Of course, this is all speculation, but this game looks to have quite the fun vibe a la NBA Jam. The athlete models, court, and FX look quite nice, to boot. Do these images from Tecmo NBA Unrivaled have you hyped? If so, check out the game’s Facebook page for more screens.

Looking really hot. I’m sick of all that 10 button sim hoops from EA/2K. I’ve been a fan of Jams, Double Dribble, Arch Rivals, and I think I’ve found the next game to suck my life away!

I agree completely. Sims have their place, but arcade-styled games never go out of style. Easily accessible to all.
