PAX East was so incredibly fun and was jam packed with awesome music, such as chiptunes. Here are a few of my favorite photos from those events. Expect loads more to be coming to my site, ThePhoblographer.com within the next two days along with a video performance. Also be sure to check out our cosplay gallery.
The heart of PAX East 2010 is video games, so it’s quite easy for attendees to overlook elements of the show that aren’t game demos, contents, swag, and dudes dressed as Princess Peach (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). Those hankering for a different aspect of gaming culture should be certain to pen in [...]
IT. IS. ON. PAX East 2010, the three-day festival that celebrates all aspects of gaming (from tabletop to PC to console) debuts on March 26 after months of perapartion. The city of Boston will bethe Mecca of all east coast nerditivities when the doors open this Friday, as the Hynes Veteran Memorial Convention Center will [...]
It’s that time again to party my fellow 8-bitters. Pulsewave: Modulation will be going down January 11th at Le Poisson Rouge Bar in NYC. The event will be hosted by DJs Natty and C-Tor and special guest DJs Paris and outpt. $5 draft and well drinks all night. It’s bound to be a BAMF time. Last month’s was really, really awesome and one of the best time’s I’ve ever had at an underground show.
We talked earlier about the 8-Bit version of Left 4 Dead that dropped this month. After some quality time with it I can tell you that this is the most addicting game I’ve ever epic failed in. Yes, it’s a tough game even in the easier difficulty. On top of this though, the music is awesome and the controls take a little bit of getting used to. While you may not be able to download this at work and play, it’s highly suggested that you give it a shot at home. More after the jump.
Jeff blogged about the Blip Festival not long ago and I attended it recently for the very first time. For anyone that loves gaming and music, but never really found a way to merge the two perfectly, this will probably be your scene. Coming from the world of professional gaming and being a bassist/guitarist/vocalist for a number of different bands, the world of chiptunes and the Blip Festival is something that I encourage all geeks to experience.
If you thought that chiptunes were the soundtrack of the nostalgic nerd set, well, you’d be right. But the music genre, which is comprised of compositions crafted on old gaming consoles like the Commodore 64, Game Boy, or NES, continues to grow and thrive, and its Woodstock, Blip Festival, returns to the Big Apple. The [...]
Nothing quite melts away racial, religious, and socio-economic barriers like a memorial for an icon. There’s a camaraderie formed with others who share the same feeling of loss as you, which perhaps is made even tighter when there is joy sprinkled in amongst the sadness. You only have to take a look at the (ongoing!) [...]
Bits and Bytes is a weekly round up of some of the more interesting gaming news items that happened to slip through the cracks during our normal posting schedule. They’re presented here in easily-digestible bite-size chunks. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for more 2D gaming commentary. Virtual Insanity? Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue [...]
I’m not one to judge (lord, knows that I’ve participated in my fair share of geeky activities), but this chiptunes dance party held in Brooklyn, New York showcases rhythmically-challenged nerds who pretty much define the geek stereotype. Still, you have to admire the lack of care as arms flail and dance steps fail. Like Marvin [...]
