Dracula X Rondo of Blood

With each new series entry, I became more enthralled with the Belmont saga; Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse added multiple pathways and selectable characters, including series favorite Alucard; Super Castlevania IV reinvented Drac’s castle into a darkly gorgeous structure filled with some of the most emotion-stirring tunes of the 16-bit era; Castlevania: Bloodlines was a tough, but fun romp. But it was 1993′s Dracula X: Rondo of Blood that floored me as no Castlevania before or since.

And I want that feeling back.

The minute I saw LevelUp’s DS Element Tray I thought “How incredibly anal. It looks like it was invented for me.” Billed as capable of holding up to 2 systems (including DSiXLs), 20 games, 12 instruction books, 1 charger and 12 styluses, I decided to give it a shot.

One would think that because Legends of Exidia resembles old school console rpgs with its side missions and lots of button mashing, it would be totally epic. Unfortunately, it’s  not epic, but it does a great job of taking you back to the 2D gaming days where you had hard puzzles to solve and missions [...]

I can vividly recall the first time that I met HipHopGamer; actually, the first time that I saw him. I was at an Activision party watching some skinny-pantsed hipsters spin the virtual wax, when I saw a dude bop into the room with a god damned wrestling belt strapped over his shoulder. I thought that [...]

Earlier this week I posted my first impressions of Ubisoft’s Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, and after long hours of trial and error I’ve finally beaten the game. If you’re asking yourself if it gets that difficult to beat, the answer is yes. I’d never expected to encounter such a high difficulty level on [...]

The Pokemon series has evolved tremendously from the days of Red and Blue with a long storyline that will keep you entertained and continually coming back for more. The gaming experience is still the same thing that made the originals and all predecessors work so well and appeal to all ages. With more species, gyms, towns etc, you’ll feel like you bought a whole slew of games instead of just one. The graphics are a bit more polished as well as the sound due to porting to the Nintendo DS(i). If you’re looking for a fun, lasting and unique portable gaming experience then Pokemon Platinum highly deserves your praise.

It’s not everyday that you’re in the running to receive a pig. Yet that’s exactly what you’ll have the chance to get if you pre-order Natsume’s latest Nintendo DS farming simulation/lovefest, Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands, from Gamestop. Launching on November 10 for $29.99, Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands reunites farmhands with all of the characters characters [...]

Scribblenauts is not a good game. The controls are absolutely maddening. All movement is controlled by the touch screen, and that wouldn’t be so bad if every other action in the game (save moving the camera) weren’t also controlled by the very same tiny surface. You combine these controls with a physics system that would [...]

Time Hollow is a story-driven point and tap style adventure along the lines of the cult classic like Phoenix Wright. In Time Hollow, players assume the identity of Ethan Kairos, a high school student whose parents disappear on his 17th birthday. Strangely enough it’s as though they never existed. After your parents’ disappearance, you come [...]

When you’re told that a game was crafted with the assistance of the scenario writer and composer of Chrono Trigger, your ears immediately perk up. That’s what happened to me at a recent Sega event. As I dug through my man-purse in the hunt for a pen to jot notes, Aaron Webber, assistant community manager [...]
