TimeWasters highlights many of the excellent, free Web-based/lightweight downloadable titles that you can dive into within the space of a lunch break. This week, Chris Gampat explores Man Hunter.
If you remember and loved Duck Hunt, then lock and load your mouse and get ready to stalk some different prey: humans! Man Hunter is a game that allows you to take aim at your fellow man’s hilarious stereotypes and use loads of weapons while doing so. Additionally, you get to use an arsenal of different items to help you accomplish this goal, and after playing for a little while you’ll really, really be relaxed.

Consider Man Hunter an alternative to all those that are sick of pointing their sights at zombies or dudes from some country where you can’t speak the language. The point of the game: kill the prey. More specifically, do it within 30 days. However, this is easily overrun as you can play in Endless Days mode and, by getting a certain item, you can grant yourself extra days.
The controls are simple: Use the mouse to click through the entire game and also for shooting – - that’s it. (You can also press spacebar to reload.) The guns, knives, and godly powers (that latter of which allows you to smite your harmless game with lighting), will automatically reload, so you can savor that burger with one hand and nom nom nom on some hysterically bloody on-screen goodness with the other.
You travel to different locations (jungle, mountains, etc) to take on your prey. Depending on where you are, different prey will appear. The mountain by far have the strongest prey and require you to shoot fast or shoot with a powerful weapon. As you become more experienced and use different bait, the monsters in your bestiary increase and you can sometimes pull off different achievements.
There is almost no music except in the in-between stages that put you in the mood of hunting on an African safari. The gun sounds though are spot on and makes for a better experience.
All in all, Man Hunter is a great title for laptop gamers, and as always, I hope this gets ported to a mobile platform.
