TimeWasters  highlights many of the excellent Web-based/lightweight downloadable titles that you can dive into within the space of a lunch break. This week, Chris Gampat explores Sushi Cat.

For those of us with an epic case of, “teh noms” you may want to check out Sushi Cat.  It’s the first TimeWaster I’ve done in a while that has actually made me smile as the game is very cute and satisfies at the same time.

The gameplay is simple. You need to drop your cat down a path so that it can nom nom nom up all the sushi possible to fill up its belly (visible on the left hand side.) Use the mouse to place your cat, and then click to drop him down the many paths that lead toward a meal.

After a while, variables come into play. For example, lots of little shapes move around and influence the cat’s movements. The stages get tougher and tougher and you’ll need to think about where to drop Sushi Cat in order to achieve maximum chow time.

The music changes from level to level, and a lot of it very Asian-themed. There are also segments that sound very ska, which  is a great thing, since I grew up in the punk rock scene.

While playing Sushi Cat, you can’t help but think of LOLCATS due to of all the little things that your feline fellow says in the game while eating. He’ll say things like, “nom,” for example. Additionally, all the little through bubbles and phrases that appear will appeal to Icanhazcheezburger, as well. You’ll actually feel pretty bad for the little guy and what he has to go through, but ultimately you’ll be happy when all ends well.

If you’re a sushi lover, anime lover, lolcat lover or just plain bored then Sushi Cat is a game you’ll want to check out.

Looks really cute! I’m definitely going to check it out right now, it’s loading up and I already am enjoying the music, hehe.

Are all the TimeWasters posts web-based? Any XBL indie games or XBLA/PSN/PSP Minis titles sneak in from time to time? (Unless it’s strictly free games!) Just curious!

Right now TimeWasters are all Web-based, but we’ll cover anything free -and- fun. Unlike standard reviews (which includes both good and bad games), TimeWasters are all positive recommendations :)
