The appeal of the Virtua Tennis games has always been realism. Whether playing as one of the world’s greatest tennis pros, or training your created pro with a real one while playing the circuit, Virtua Tennis is all about giving players a real tennis experience.

Good thing they’re embracing the Sony Move and 3D technology.

Virtua Tennis 4 is in development by the original Virtua Tennis team in Japan. It will have full Move and 3D compatibility, granting players a “more immersive, true-to-life tennis experience,” according to SEGA.

Virtua Tennis 4 isn’t just about hitting the ball. The Sony Move factors in the angle of the racquet, the spin and speed of the ball, and the power of the shot. Fast and subtle movements are tracked by the Moved controller, which should allow more accurate shots than before. Combine that accuracy and interactivity with the 3D components, and gamers will actually feel like they’re on the court.

Additional features and a full-player lineup will be revealed in the coming months. Virtua Tennis 4 will be released in 2011 for the PS3 with Move and 3D compatibility.

About - News and Culture Editor Laurie Vazquez really misses when all games were flat. Sure, she’s worked in television and veered off into film and television writing, but when she’s not whacking out scripts for contests (or, more likely, when she should be whacking them out) she fires up her beloved flat games. Take away her Nintendo, and she is a sad, sad girl. Just don’t take away her Futurama or her viola: that makes her mad.
