Virtual Vox Pop: What’s The Best Stick or Contoller for Fighting Games?
Fighters, Gaming Gear, Virtual Vox Pop — By Jeffrey L. Wilson on August 5, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Virtual Vox Pop is a weekly open mic in which we ask you, the reader, to sound off on a particular topic. This week, it’s fighting sticks.
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, King of Fighters XII, and Street Fighter IV are the three high-profile 2D fighters released this year that gave fighting fans ample opportunity to hurl fireballs, launch uppercuts, and engage in other mano y mano activities. Too bad that the consoles’ default controllers are fortified with suck.
If you want to engage in some serious tourney-level play, you need a good stick, or at least a gamepad designed with fighters in mind. The market is filled with ‘em, but which are worth your money? Let’s pow wow.
Inspired by a reader (Raul!) mentioning that he uses a MadCatz Tournament Stick, 2D-X kicks off Virtual Vox Pop, where we turn the reigns over to you. This week’s topic: What’s the best controller/joystick for fighting games?

I also have a Mad Catz tourney stick. Best stick on the market right now!
I don’t think that the PS3 controller is bad. The Xbox’, on the other hand, is a pile.
I still use my ASCII Stick FT for Dreamcast, so I don’t know much about what’s currently available as far as console joysticks.
But I will say this: Japanese-style sticks are HANDS DOWN better than American-style sticks. Once you use the former, you will never go back!
Whats the difference between US and Japanese sticks?
